There are many things that can put you under pressure – work, colleagues, family duties, friends or simply you yourself. The term “perfect” is often used too light heartedly and “striving for perfection” has become a normal goal to have. Don’t get me wrong – I don’t think there is anything wrong with challenging yourself or others, but there are limits. Where do you put those limits for yourself? Do you make sure your well-being stays a priority between the deadlines and expectations you’re facing daily?
When we feel under pressure, we naturally go into a fight or flight mode which basically means to get ready to fight or to run away from potential danger. And this can be triggered with certain stressful situations.
That’s why it’s important for your body and mind to relax and recharge on a regular basis. I’ve put some well-being tips together that you can use to boost your mental health and eventually improve your happiness. But first let’s have a look at what well-being actually means.

What Does Well-being Mean?
The Oxford English Dictionary defines well-being as “the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy”. But in my opinion, it goes further than that. Well-being is about the quality of life and how satisfied you feel with it. It’s about the state of your mental health.
It’s crucial to make your mental health a priority and I’m sure these 8 well-being tips make a good list to start with or can even complement the one you already have yourself.
8 Well-being Tips for When You’re Feeling Under Pressure
1. Allow yourself to take breaks
First of all: Take breaks! There is nothing wrong with it. Eat your lunch away from the computer, don’t answer emails while you’re on your daily walk outside and try to mentally separate work and private life from each other. I know that this can be challenging for some, but very intentionally taking breaks and feeling good about the fact that you’re taking one is the first step.
Now how can we enjoy those breaks more?! This brings me to my next well-being tip…
2. Being mindful
One of the things that help me enjoy things most is whenever I focus on being mindful. Being present in the moment, giving space to my thoughts, feelings and everything that is around me. This might not be the most natural thing to do as we’re used to rushing through our days, but mindfulness goes such a long way! You can start by going outside for a walk and focus entirely on everything you see around yourself: Trees, their leaves, the sounds of nature and so on. Try it and see how it makes you feel.
3. Establish a healthy sleep routine
Another thing that has been crucial in improving my physical and mental well-being was establishing a healthy sleep routine. And this goes further than just making sure I get a certain amount of hours of sleep every night.
To me, a healthy sleep routine also means to have certain rituals before going to bed: I like to play back my day, think about what I liked about it. I also think it’s so relaxing to read before sleeping or listen to relaxing music. And of course I love doing all of this in a set of comfy PJ’s!
4. Move your body
When you’re physically active on a daily basis, your blood flow in your body improves and with this, the number of oxygen increases. As a result, you feel more energetic and mentally active.
As this is something that really helps me, so of course I had to include it on my list of well-being tips! What kind of exercise do you like to do? I love my daily walks through the neighbourhood – and sometimes they include a detour to the local coffee shop!

5. Connect with others
Being under pressure is a thing most of us have in common: Either we’re feeling it right now or we have been there many times before. Spending quality time with friends or family, sharing how we are feeling and asking for support can all help you feel more at ease.
I personally love connecting with people and it helps tremendously when it comes to improving my well-being and happiness.
6. Learn new skills
Another thing that can help a lot with your overall well-being is to spend time with yourself. Learning a new skill is a great way to do that. And on top of that, it can boost your confidence and improve your happiness.
I recently had the most fun getting to know a new video tool and spent hours creating videos for my social media! The new skill doesn’t have to be a big thing – it’s all about what makes you feel good about yourself.
7. Practice gratitude
I’ve found that a good way to practice gratitude is by journaling. Focusing on what you’re grateful for in your life, celebrating achievements and letting positivity shine goes a long way! You can start by thinking about three things you’re grateful for and simply write them down. There is no right or wrong then it comes to this!
8. Set realistic goals
Last but not least on my list of well-being tips is to set realistic goals!! This is a big one. Doesn’t matter if it concerns work life or private life: If you don’t start setting goals for yourself that are realistic, you will always feel like you’re a step behind. Create a to-do list that is actually doable and celebrate your wins along the way!
